The teen residence program in Zell am See, Austria is suited to a student who is looking for a traditional camp experience with the option of focusing on learning German for a portion of each day. The ideal camper is comfortable being away from home, familiar with camp life and ready to participate in a wide range activities. Location

The hills are alive with sounds of laughter!  Austria is the perfect back drop for the traditional camp experience with a twist.  In a small quaint village, 90 minutes from Salzburg and 3 hours from Munich, lies a wonderful camp facility with its own residence, classrooms, dining hall, sports hall, tennis courts and even a team challenge course. The camp is situated in a beautiful, lush valley with a backdrop of snow capped mountains. Just a short distance from the camp lies an inviting lake that makes water activities like kayaking, windsurfing and sailing a possibility to every camper.

Program Overview

This teen residence program in Zell am See is operated as a traditional camp where campers choose a 2 week specialized program from the following options:

  • German Language
  • English Language
  • Mountain and Lake Adventure
  • Film Academy

Students may choose only one specialized program for each 2 week period. If a student would like to participate for 4 weeks they may choose one program for the first 2 weeks and a different program for the next 2 weeks. Students will participate in their specialized program in the morning and participate in 2 different activities each afternoon. Afternoon activities include:

  • water sports; sailing, kayaking, swimming
  • mountain activities; climbing, hiking, biking
  • sports; tennis, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton
  • music, dance, arts and crafts and cooking

The evenings are designed to continue the fun with team building challenges, movie madness, camp Olympics and talent nights. Campers who have not chosen the Film Academy option will still have a chance to work together on a feature film about a particular aspect of life in an international camp setting.

German Language Program

The main emphasis of the German language program is to gain proficiency in speaking and comprehension. The course philosophy is based on enjoying oneself while learning a new language. There is a total of 15 hours per week of practical instruction in small groups and language campers are encouraged to use their German throughout the day in whatever activity they join. Assessment is continuous. An appropriate individual certificate is awarded at the end of camp and a written report is sent to each parent. The afternoon and evenings are filled with sports, activities and excursions. Excursions may include trips to Salzburg, Krimml Waterfalls or the Salt mines at Hallein. Teachers

The teachers are all native German speakers and fully qualified to teach German as a foreign language. They bring a wealth of experience teaching at all levels and design each lesson to focus on comprehension, conversation and the practical use of German. The teachers use an innovative approach by introducing fun elements to the course through music, video, language games and field projects.

Accommodation and Meals

The camp has wonderful chalet style accommodations with rooms that comfortably host 2 - 5 campers with en-suite facilities and access to balconies with a great view. Campers are strictly separated by age and gender. All meals are served in the spacious family-style dining hall. Meals always include a vegetarian option and with prior knowledge the school will accommodate cultural, religious and dietary needs.
