The Teen Residence Program in Vienna is suited to the student who is looking for a well-balanced German language + culture immersion program. The program is ideal for students who have limited travel experience, are comfortable under the guidance of outgoing and knowledgeable monitors and would like to interact with international students. Location

With a population of 1.7 million, Vienna is not only the capital of Austria but also by far its largest city. When we think of Vienna we picture a  traditional city with imperial palaces, baroque architecture, magnificent squares and, of course, Mozart!  But Vienna is also one of Europe's most dynamic cities and one that caters to almost every taste with an outstanding mix of modern art, music, architecture and entertainment.

Vienna is definitely one of the most interesting capitals in the world to visit, it is also considered to be one of the safest. It was recently (2008) ranked second in an international quality of life survey. Vienna is also well known for its multiculturalism and friendly and welcoming citizens.

Program Overview

The program offers a perfect blend of German immersion lessons with a rich and varied afternoon leisure program that includes sports and cultural activities as well as optional excursions to many fascinating places of interest in and around Vienna. It also offers the unique opportunity to meet and make friends with students from all over Europe, Latin America and Asia, making this a very popular program for students who are looking for a truly international experience!

The School

The school is located on the campus of a prestigious private school in central Vienna, originally founded by Empress Maria Theresia. Famous sights and public transportation are all found within walking distance of the campus.  The campus facilities include:

Academic Program

Depending on how intensive you want to make your studies, you can choose between 20 or 30 lessons per week.  With the 20 lessons option, you will have 4 lessons daily from Monday to Friday in small groups of no more than 15 students.  The 30 lessons option includes the standard 4 lessons daily, plus an extra 2 lessons per day in small groups. Lessons are focused around grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and oral comprehension.  Emphasis is placed on German in real-life situations, communicative language games and working in groups or pairs.

Teachers

The teaching staff are fully-qualified young and dynamic native speakers.  They set out to create a relaxed, amusing and motivating atmosphere with lesson themes that you can relate to.  During extra-curricular activities, you will be strongly encouraged to use German so you can get used to thinking in the language!

Culture and Leisure Program

Students enrolled in the Teen Residence Program in Vienna will enjoy a daily culture and leisure program that includes:

• Walking tours of the city: afternoon and evening
• Creative workshops: music, theatre, art
• Sports: soccer, beach volleyball, basketball
• Entertainment: learning to waltz, karaoke, open air cinema, campfire

Optional Activities and Excursions

In addition to the culture and leisure activities listed above, students can sign up for optional cultural and sports activities and excursions, on a pay as you go basis, including:

• Culture Special: weekly guided tours to museums and palaces as well as the theatre or opera; this takes place on Wednesday afternoons
• Tennis lessons: 6, 8 or 10 lessons every two weeks
• Full or half-day excursions: guided visits to cities and regions or interest including Salzburg, Danube Valley, Hinterbruhl Grotto or "Burg Kreuzenstein

Accommodation and Meals

You can choose either Standard room or Superior room accommodation, both located on the school campus. Standard rooms consist of 4 to 6 beds per room with shared toilets and shower facilities on each floor.  Superior rooms are shared by no more than three students and include private showers.  All students are given three meals per day including a buffet breakfast, three course lunch and evening dinner.
