The Teen Residence Program in Benalmadena, Spain is suited to the student who is looking for a well-balanced language + culture immersion program in Spain. The program is ideal for students who have some travel experience and are comfortable travelling independently by public transit. Location

Benalmadena is an attractive coastal town of the Costa del Sol (pop. 40.000) only 18 km from Malaga city and 8 km from Malaga international airport.  Originally a sleepy Andalusian fishing village with beautiful white washed houses, Benalmadena has developed into a lively town which retains its old charm and character. The town is small enough to provide a peaceful and secure environment, while large enough to offer good shops, hotels and restaurants, a large park and a modern sports centre. Benalmadena offers a wide range of amenities for all ages, such as an amusement park, a water park, an outdoor cinema, a shopping centre, a casino, 18 hole golf greens and the popular Puerto Marina de Benalmadena, a sailing school, aquarium and diving school. It has become one of the favorite meeting places for young people for its exciting nightlife!

Program

Our Benalmadena summer program is hosted by one of Spain’s leading youth organizations in the South of Spain.  The program takes place at our partner school's privately owned high school campus and the facilities consist of modern and bright classrooms as well as a dining room, a cafe/cafeteria, library, common rooms, teachers’ room, a computers room, a small theatre and an arts studio. In addition the school has a covered sports pavilion, sport fields outside and a swimming pool. The campus is only minutes from sandy beaches, cafes and restaurants and a 15 minute train ride to downtown Malaga. 

Course

The summer Teen Homestay Program in Benalmadena has been designed specifically for young learners and offers 15 lessons per week of intensive Spanish instruction taught each morning from 9:30 to 13:00.  In addition, each week you will participate in 3 afternoons of sports activities and 3 evening activities.  Sports activities include volleyball, swimming, basketball, etc. Group tennis lessons are also available at an extra cost.* Evening activities include cultural presentations, movie nights, discos and beach parties.

You will also enjoy 1 half-day excursion which includes trips to neighboring cities and towns such as Malaga, Nerja and Marbella as well as 1 full-day excursion every Saturday which includes visits to places of interest such as Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Ronda.

Optional Sports

If tennis is your passion, you can enrol in the "Tennis Package", which includes 6 x 2 hour lessons over two weeks, taught by professional tennis instructors.  After assessing the level's of each participant, students will be grouped according to ability and given instruction on various aspects of both singles and doubles play. If sailing is more your sport, you can enrol in the "Sailing Package". This includes 6 x 2 hour lessons over two weeks, taught by fully qualified sailing instructors.  Students are grouped according to ability and given instruction on all aspects of sailing including boating and water safety.  Please visit our prices page for costs.

Please note: the Tennis and Sailing packages can be booked for the following two week periods: July 4 to 17, July 18 to 31 & August 8 to 21, 2010. 4 week bookings are also possible for the July 4 start date.

Teachers

All teachers are native speakers and university graduates with experience in teaching Spanish to foreigners.  At weekly teacher's meeting new programmes are planned and discussed, individual student´s progress monitored and a general forum is held for new ideas and initiatives.

Accommodation

The accommodation is in fully-screened and carefully selected host families, most of whom are parents of students who attend the high school during the year. The families live close to the town centre and approx. 20 minutes walking distance from the school.

Accommodation is provided in double rooms and on a full board basis: breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and all meals on weekends. On Monday to Friday lunches are served in the dining room of the school.

*Please note: This program is officially open to 13 to 17 year olds, however, due to the level of supervision and the evening curfew, we feel it is best suited to students between the ages of 15 and 17.
