French Language Holiday Course

Location

The seaside resort town of Villefranche-sur-Mer, located 6 km (4 miles) east of the city of Nice and 10 km (6 miles) west of Monaco/Monte Carlo, is set in one of the most stunningly gorgeous bays of the Riviera.  This medieval town is a favorite destination for sailing enthusiasts, artists, and tourists who are drawn to the breathtaking views, warm climate and charming Old Town. 

Program

In this French language immersion program, our partner school in Villefranche offers a two and four week French immersion language course for professional adults and mature students who want to acquire rapid fluency in French.  Founded in 1969, its aim is to develop a natural speaking ability by using a unique concept, the "Total Approach", which combines the most effective audio-visual methods with practice and real-life sessions in a "French-only" speaking environment.

The school occupies a luxurious Provençal villa set in the hillside overlooking the bay. Here you can enjoy modern and well-equipped classrooms, a language laboratory, a resource centre, dinning hall and living rooms where you can relax with your fellow classmates during breaks and where group discussions take place.  Weather permitting you can enjoy the gardens and terrace where classes are often held during the warmer months.  

Lessons

This intensive French language course in France is specifically geared to students who are looking to become fluent in French.  Each day consists of 8.5 hours of French classes, laboratories, discussion lunches and "situation sessions".  Please see the sample schedule page for a detailed breakdown of how you will spend your day. The key to becoming fluent is to speak only in French in varied situations, using and re-using the fundamental vocabulary needed for everyday conversation.  No special preparation or knowledge of French is required but you must be willing to work hard!  Some homework is given on an individual basis to address problem areas and optional homework is also available.

Teachers

Teachers in this language learning program are rigorously selected to ensure the highest possible teaching standard. They are all native French speakers and hold various university degrees in foreign languages and linguistics.  Several teachers speak multiple languages and are continually monitored by the Institute's teaching supervisor.

Accommodation*

The Intensive program in Villefranche-sur-Mer offers studio, one and two bedroom apartment options. All accommodation is located in Villefranche-sur-Mer within walking distance of the school, shops, restaurants and banks.  Each apartment is completely furnished with towels and bedding, cooking utensils, dishes, refrigerator, telephone and TV.  Apartments are cleaned and linens washed weekly. The apartment options are as follows:

• Private studio apartment: includes a combined sleeping/living area, kitchen, bathroom, washing machine, telephone and TV.
• Higher standard studio apartment: includes the same features are the standard studio apartment but is generally larger and may include a balcony or terrace with a view of the bay.
• Higher standard 1 or 2 room private apartments: includes the same amenities as the higher standard studio apartments but they have separate living and sleeping areas.

** Accommodation is available from a Monday to a Friday. It may be possible to check-in on Sunday but check-out must be a Friday.  Please contact us for details.
