Location Surrounded by magnificent views of the Mediterranean and fiery Mount Etna - Europe’s highest active volcano - Taormina is an enchanting and welcoming coastal town on the east coast of Sicily. By day, Taormina offers visitors endless sites to explore including the famous Greco-Roman amphitheatre. By night, it transforms into a magical place with twinkling street lights and incredible views from restaurant terraces. The spectacle of Mount Edna’s nocturnal fires is a truly amazing site! Taormina has endless, winding medieval streets and tiny passages, each with its own treasures – quaint shops, restaurants, cafés and gelato bars. The locals are friendly and helpful and very keen to share their unpretentious and laid-back way of life. While Taormina can be hot and crowded during July and August, it is extremely pleasant and enjoyable the rest of the year. So, pack your appetite and a good pair of walking shoes and prepare to discover a place like no other! Program The Taormina 50 Plus Language Learning Holiday program caters to students over 50 and takes place in one of Italy’s most established and successful Italian language schools on the island of Sicily. The program maximizes opportunities for you to improve your Italian skills in a practical, real-life setting by offering an ideal mix of small, supportive classes and enriching cultural activities and excursions. The school faces mighty Mount Etna, the Bay of Naxos, lush public gardens, and tennis courts, and the roof-top terrace offers one of the most incredible views of all of Taormina. In January 2010, the school will move to a larger, restored Villa just a few minutes away from the current location. Lessons Classes in this Italian course in Taormina are specifically designed for learners over 50 who want to study Italian and also learn more about the history, culture, cuisine, and wines of Sicily. Italian classes take place in the morning and focus on communication and basic grammar. Students are encouraged to speak Italian as much as possible throughout the day. After class you will participate in a wide range of cultural activities and excursions, including visits to the Greek-Roman Theatre, Etna, and other cities in Sicily. Extra classes in cooking, pottery or golf are also available. Teachers All teachers in this Italian language learning program have studied foreign languages at universities and all are trained to teach Italian as a foreign language. In addition, they are all university graduates and most of them speak at least one or two foreign languages. Student progress is continuously monitored and all teachers meet weekly to facilitate organization and ensure proper level placement. Accommodation The Taormina 50 Plus Language Learning Holiday offers homestay family, private or shared apartment, and two to five star hotels accommodation.
