Location

In this booming, bustling, vibrant and every-changing city, European-style architecture stands alongside traditional Chinese temples. Nestled between shopping malls and stunning modern architecture is old Shanghai, with its colourful street markets, classic Chinese gardens and street stalls offering traditional dumplings. There are some must-see sights in Shanghai including the Jade Buddha Temple, Nanjing Road and The Bund, a truly unique neighbourhood famous for its numerous buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque and Renaissance. Shanghai is truly a feast for the senses, offering visitors the pleasure of exploration and never knowing what is going to be around the next corner!

Program

This Shanghai 50 Plus Language Learning Holiday program is an ideal opportunity for senior students to learn both the Chinese language and culture while visiting China.   It’s also a wonderful way to meet people of a similar age and with similar interests.  The language holiday program consists of Chinese language classes in the morning and cultural activities and excursions in the afternoons, evenings and on the weekend.

Lessons

The Chinese language holiday course consists of 20 language classes per week. On the first day of school, a placement test is conducted to determine your level of Chinese.  There are eight different levels, from total beginner to advanced.  Depending on how much Chinese you already speak, you may be placed in a class with adults who are under 50 if it is the best match for your level. 

Teachers

Every teacher holds a university degree and is experienced in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.  The teaching methods combine all aspects and skills of language such as grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, listening, reading, conversation and writing in an interactive way that makes language learning productive and interesting.

Accommodation

Our partner school in Shanghai can arrange accommodations to optimize your experience.  You have a choice of three different types of accommodations with an average of 30 minutes transportation time to school.  All accommodation types are located close to shops, banks and post offices.

1. Private Studio Apartment: Private apartments in residential buildings include all furniture, bed linens, towels, washing machine, TV, air-conditioning, free broadband Internet access, telephone and free local phone calls.  The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave, stove, pans, cutlery.
2. Single Room Shared Apartment: Private rooms in residential buildings have shared bathrooms and a kitchen shared with other international students.  Each room includes all furniture, bed linens, towels, washing machine, TV, air-conditioning, free broadband Internet access, telephone and free local phone calls. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave, stove, pans, cutlery.
3. Homestay: This accommodation offers a full immersion experience.  With a fully-furnished private room and access to the family's kitchen area, you will share in daily meals, conversation and family activities.  Each homestay includes a washing machine, TV, air-conditioning, free broadband Internet access, telephone and free local phone calls.
