Learn French > Lyon 50 Plus Language Learning Holiday Lyon 50 Plus Language Learning HolidayFrench Language Holiday Course
Location A cosmopolitan university city filled with art, culture, history, contemporary dance, silk weavers, and off to the east, views of the snow-covered Alps, Lyon, never a “touristy” city, has become branché (cool), or, more colloquially, in, to employ the English slang they often use. The capital of French gastronomy, the city, with its glittering shop windows and mélange of burnt sienna and pink façades has everything a city needs to seduce. It’s no surprise that in 1998, UNESCO designated the area on both banks of its famous Saône River, a World Heritage site—the largest urban area on Earth so designated. Program The Lyon 50 Plus Language Learning Holiday program merges French lessons with French culture. After morning classes, your afternoon and evening program focuses on the culture, cuisine and history of Lyon. You’ll have lunch with your teacher once per week at a local restaurant and afterwards, explore the sights and sounds of France’s third largest city with one of the school’s trained guides. In the evening you’ll have a chance to use your French over dinner with your local host family. Please see our sample schedule. Lessons The objective of this French course in France is to work on practicing language skills in communicative contexts. Classes comprise an average of six students with a guaranteed maximum of eight. Lessons are based mainly on French communication skills for travel and tourism, complemented by grammar and written expression. Teachers are aware of the specific needs and requirements of students over 50 years of age. Classes are therefore adapted to allow students to approach learning the French language in an optimal manner, closely linked to the culture of the country. Lessons are 45 minutes in length. Teachers The teachers in this language learning holiday program are all native French speakers and are qualified to teach French as a second language. They bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the classroom and design each lesson to focus on speaking and listening skills with appropriate attention paid to reading and writing. Accommodation Accommodation is homestay-based, enabling you to constantly practice the language and explore French culture in a comfortable and friendly setting. The accommodation officer rigorously selects each family and spends a great deal of time matching the student to the right family, which is why we appreciate as much information as possible from students regarding personality, likes and dislikes, etc. Host families are of all ages and social backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common: their hospitality and friendliness. Your hosts will provide you with breakfast and dinner, daily. Couples may request a local host family that can accommodate 2 individuals. *Host family accommodation is the recommended accommodation option for this language holiday program. Alternatively, you may book the course only and either arrange your own accommodation or the school can assist with accommodation. Please see the prices page for Course Only Fees or contact us.
