Location Situated in the Baden-Wurttenberg region, in south-west Germany, the idyllic and friendly town of Ellwangen—population 25,000—is nestled in a postcard-perfect Jagst River Valley and is surrounded by countless sparkling lakes. Everywhere you turn, you can see evidence of the town’s 1200 years of history in royal residences, palaces and impressive churches including the Romanesque Basilica of St. Vitus. The winding alleys and charming street corners of the old town, with its lovely plazas and countless street cafes, invite visitors to wander, discover and relax. Ellwangen is also the perfect home base to explore Germany’s 3rd largest province which borders both France and Switzerland. The surrounding Black Forest countryside is the birth place of the cuckoo clock and black forest ham; it is also host to spectacular scenic drives, breathtaking hikes and therapeutic baths. Program The Ellwangen 50 Plus Language Learning Holiday takes place at Haus Schoneberg, a beautifully-kept old building with modern equipment and facilities. You will both study and sleep at Haus Schoneberg, which serves as a conference center during the rest of the year. Haus Schoneberg is situated on a hill overlooking the old city, which is only a short walk away. The attractive old town's maze of narrow winding streets, beautiful squares and outdoor cafés is the ideal place for an evening stroll or to rest after a day of classes and activities and enjoy the town’s lively ambiance. Lessons This program offers German language lessons for the first two weeks with classes taught in the mornings and in small groups—so instruction can be tailored toward individual needs. Focus is placed on the practical application of all newly acquired knowledge. You’ll be given a language level test on the first Monday to determine your appropriate class level. All participants also take a weekly test to assess the progress made during the preceding week. In the afternoons and on weekends you will be provided with an interesting and varied program of leisure and cultural activities. The third week is optional and is a special cultural program that follows the 2 week language course. During the this week participants have no language lessons but take part in a varied cultural program and practice their newly acquired language skills. Please see the sample schedule page. Teachers All teachers in this language holiday course are native German speakers with a university level education and are trained to teach German as a second language. Accommodation Accommodation is provided in single or double rooms within the Haus Schoneberg conference centre. Each room has a private three-piece washroom (toilet, sink and shower). You will receive three meals per day as well as one snack. Features included in the price of our language holiday program:
